I was lucky to get to see Tanty Eva and Tanty Bunnie this last weekend. We spent the whole day together going over the family’s historical past again. It was important to me that I hear it again and again. It’s not everyday someone can know mostly everything about their family and live to tell about it. From my father’s side, Hugo C. A., they have become mirrors in which we can look back and see not who, but how it all came together.
For those that are not familiar with Eva, she is renowned by the Brooklyn community as an outstanding resident for over 58 years at the same address, and an exclusive write up in Crane, The New York Times, and rent Stabilization Newspaper. This last stage of her celebrity status came out of an infamous case with a tenant who did not pay rent for over 8 years. She was also a famous designer and business woman with many designs under her belt.
I have a date with Robin A., the nurse at my job who may also be family, and shed some light in the wake of all this family up heaving. This picture was taken at Tanty Eva’s 80th birthday party in Brooklyn, 2007, with Tanty Bunnie. We also amassed a group of pictures to be collaged at a later time, which I will let everyone know when and where to access the photos.
